    VISION

I wanted this piece to be a lilting tune to capture the image of a small sailing boat bobbing on a lake. A gentle breeze catches the sails and the boat glides away across the water. It is a peaceful and sunny scene.

    PERFORMANCE NOTES

This is a simple cello duet in G Major. It has an optional piano part which works well because it moves constantly, helping to keep the tempo steady. It helps to fill out the harmony but the piece works well without the piano. I wrote it in G Major in order to avoid the problems of C#s on the G string. I tried not to use 3rd and 4th fingers one after the other and I haven’t used any tricky string crossings. The piece generally uses alternating 1st and 2nd fingers.
In this way, a recognisable pattern is created that helps to shape the music. The moving part alternates between the two cellos which gives a sense of both parts being equal.

The full recording uses the piano part. If the cellos want to play without the piano they can start at bar 3.
