LET’S INSPIRE...
One of the best ways in which children can be inspired today is through being involved with music. Taking up a stringed instrument is a challenge because they are amongst the most difficult instruments to master. Beginner and learner string players of all ages need extra inspiration at the start of their journey. They need to play music that means something to them. Basically, they need to love what they play and they need to have great fun doing it in order for be inspired enough to carry on.
If beginners are moved in some way by music, then my hope is that they will be naturally swept forward in life, that they might be comforted emotionally, and they might even gain an insight into what their life could be about. I think music is as important as that.
TECHNICALLY SIMPLE BUT SIMPLY INSPIRING
I’ve created original compositions that are technically simple, but mature and inspirational, easy and fun to play, full of beauty, depth and meaning. Music with a point.
EXPECTING GREAT PERFORMANCES FROM OUR BEGINNERS
I want to write music for beginner string players that has the same ethos as music written for experienced and technically advanced amateur and professional string players. When musicians perform in ensembles, be it in duets or large school string orchestras, the experience should be about creating a moment. When they play a piece of music in a concert it should be about delivering a great performance. It goes for professionals, adult amateurs, all musicians… and in my mind it should go for beginners and learners too.
Music should be music, pure and simple, no matter what age, level or ability it’s written for.
By enjoying and getting a lot out of what they do they will be in the privileged position of emotionally moving those who listen: making them laugh and cry, feel fear and excitement, feel a myriad of emotions.
It’s a big aim, but I want to emotionally move children with the music they play.
HAVE FAITH AND MAKE IT FUN...
So let’s not get hung up on the issues that we sometimes get stuck on...what grade a piece is, what grade a child has, how much practice they do in an evening... Let’s have a bit more faith in our beginner and learner string players. Let's let them have fun when they play together, so they can enjoy the experience as much as they can

I understand that music and instrumental teachers don’t have enough hours in the day to spend ages searching for the perfect piece of music for their string players to learn and perform.
